Senior Moments

I thought of something really good to post while my computer was starting up this morning. That was about an hour and a half ago. I had some work to do before I could compose it. Now that I have a free moment, I can't remember what it was.

But, trust me, it was really good.

Darn!

Video

I was able to get some of the video from the band's gig out of the camera and figured out how to upload some edited (for file size, not duration) to YouTube. Here is the link:

No Applause, Just Throw Money

Last night's band gig went pretty well. There were a few rough spots but, overall, we were pleased with how the show went. We figured it was a good dress rehearsal for the June 29th gig in the park where we'll actually get paid.

We had several of the school's staff come up to us after we were done and tell us we were good and they enjoyed having us there. I'm not quite sure how to take it since you get what you pay for, and we played for free :-). I think I'll just take it at face value and agree that we were good. The best part was that we all had a lot of fun!

We were supposed to play three times for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 30 minutes with other things going on between sets. Unfortunately, some of the other things ran long and we had to cut our last song because it was a school night and it was time for the event to end.

I also learned about the before and after show life of a small band. We had to get to the school about two and a half hours early to set up all the equipment, run the cables, tune up, and do a sound check. Then we had to tear it all down and pack it up afterwards, which only took about an hour. I think we played for less than an hour total. I SO have more respect for roadies now.

I took video of the second and third sets (I forgot to turn the camera on for the first set). After I get from the video tape into the computer, I'll post something. It may just be a link to the band's site or YouTube.

Overall, it was a hoot!

Rock n Roll Star?

Tonight is my band's (Green Elephant) first gig since I joined them last November. It was originally supposed to be in April but got postponed until tonight. We're playing in the quad during an open house at one of the local high schools and don't get paid. We got the gig because one of our guitarists is one of the teachers. We are playing three times during the program for a total of about 75 minutes. We're playing eleven songs during the three sets. I get to sing one of them (Jumping Jack Flash). I hope I can pull it off. We've been rehearsing it for a few weeks and everyone is still letting me sing. Maybe that's a good sign, I hope it's not that everyone is playing so loudly they can't hear me sing. I'm playing bass on about half the songs and keyboard or percussion on the others.

I've still got about eleven hours until the gig starts and I'm already nervous. I hear that's a good sign. Too bad it's at a high school and not a bar. No alcohol allowed on campus. We'll just have to drink before we get there. :-)

I'm going to try to take video of the show. If I do tape it, I'll try to put up a clip or two.

This is the first stop on my road to fame and fortune. Okay, it's my first stop on my way to Home Depot to pick up painting supplies. It's practically the same thing.
