If You're Just Joining Us...

My wife is one of a group of people who moderate a message board. Yesterday, someone started a poll about what blogs people read. One of the responses said the poster reads the blogs from two of the moderator's husbands (or something to that effect). Based on the tracking statistics for this blog and the screen name of the poster, I think this is one of those blogs.

So I've vacuumed up the loose bits that were laying around, cleaned up the old spaghetti code, and put out some fresh cookies. I want to be ready in case there is a sudden influx of several thousand women. I don't expect many of them to stick around long, but I want to at least make a good impression.

Hi, nice to see you.
Come on in.
Please wipe your feet.

I'm Still Here

It seems that, lately, I either don't have anything to write or am too busy to write when I have thought of something.

Last weekend was my last 3 day weekend for 3 months. The State employees get at least one more holiday before Memorial Day, but us lowly corporate contractors don't have "Bob, the Guy on the Corner Day" as a recognized holiday.

I made the most of last weekend. Not because it was intentionally planned, but just because it worked out that way.

Friday night, I went to see Nanny McPhee with the wife and one kid. It was a good movie, I recommend it.

Saturday, We went to 'Dream Dinners' and packaged up some meals for the next month. They were really busy last week, business must be good. It's the first time we've had to stand and wait for a station to open up so we could prepare a meal. It probably slowed up down by 45 minutes. It was frustrating watching people move s-o s-l-o-w-l-y putting their meals together. Just put the stuff in the containers, it's not rocket science!

Saturday night, we went to a seafood extravaganza at the local country club. We aren't members, but we know members. It's also good to KNOW the king. The food was delicious. They also have a well stocked bar. :)

On Sunday, we went to church to repent for our gluttony on Saturday night. then we proceeded to go out with some more friends for a nice Italian dinner with some very good Chianti. After dinner we went to the local English pub and had a beer and threw some darts. We hadn't spent time with these friends in a while. It was nice.

And on the 7th day... Wait, wrong day.

On Monday, we rested. I mowed the yard, did some laundry, watched a movie, then went to the tax office and sat around for a couple of hours waiting for someone to want me to do their taxes (no one showed up). It was a nice restful day.

Maybe it's a good thing I don't have another long weekend until May. Too many of those might kill me.

Since We're Out...

Why is it that when a man goes to run one errand with a woman, it ends up an all day outing?

Sorry

I still haven't come with anything to write. I want to write something, but there's just nothing there.

Maybe it's from being so busy. You would think that would give me inspiration for something. It doesn't.

Maybe tomorrow.

Brain Cloud

I would really like to write something profound today. Unfortuantely, I've got bupkus, so all you get is random thoughts.

Most of my team is at a motivational seminar today. I didn't want to go, so I'm holding down the fort. Does that mean I need the seminar more than them?

Next Monday is a State holiday but not for my company. It'll be nice and quiet at work.

The women at church are going on their retreat this weekend. Some of the husbands have talked about having our own party while they're gone. I bet no one plans anything and we all stay home.

It's not even 10:00 yet! Still two hours until lunch.

I think that's enough randomness for today. Stay tuned for the next exciting epsiode.

Who Died?

For no particular reason, today I dressed all in black. I wore the same pants as yesterday, I grabbed the first shirt on a hanger I saw, I put on the same color socks and shoes I almost always wear to work. I went into the closet to grab a tie and looked in the mirror. Lo and behold, I was dressed from head to toe in black. I decided "what the heck" and grabbed a black tie.

What makes this kind of amusing, as opposed to "so what?", is that two of my coworkers are also dressed completely in black today. I'm sure it must be a sign. I just don't know of what. Does it mean something when a large portion of your QA team is dressed in black?

Death to the developers!

Reality Check

As a musician, I suck.

I went to an open jam at a local music store for middle aged musicians who would like to get together with like minded souls to play some music. Today was for anyone who is interested in the current session to come and sign up. The store provides coaches to divide the people into bands after seeing them today. There will be four weeks of rehearsal, then a show for all the bands.

I have been wanting to participate in this program for several years, but today was the first time I actually made it to the kick-off session. Everyone is thrown together into 4 or 5 person bands and told to play 3 songs that the band chooses while waiting their turn. I ended up in 2 bands and played 6 songs. I hadn't ever played any of them before. I sang lead vocal on 1, backup vocal on 2 others and played bass for all 6. I believe I was the weakest musician out of the 20 or more people there. Some of the groups sounded like they could have gone straight into the recording studio. I was struggling to try to think of something to play since I didn't have the music for the songs we were playing. It didn't seem to be a problem for the other people. This was a very humiliating experience. Perhaps my money would be better spent on lessons instead of playing in a band. Although, it wouldn't be near as fulfilling.

I think I'll skip this session and work on getting better on my own for a while before I try to keep up with these real musicians. I'm not quitting my day job just yet.

Remind Me Who You Are

That woman who keeps putting stuff in my closet and on the counter next to my bathroom sink sent me a text message last night. It said "Think about a date tomorrow night." She looks vaugely familiar, but I'm can't really place her. I guess I could take a chance and go on a date with her. Men like agressive women.

Maybe we'll have something in common hit it off.

Commercial Bowl

Only three more days until the most watched television event of the year. Ah, the excitement and anticipation are almost too much to stand. Will the commercials be great, or will they be a waste of millions of dollars.

Oh, I hear there's a football game, too.

Nothing To See Here

Move along.
